Table 6.1: European success
Each competition is given the same points for reaching a particular stage. The relative strength and weakness of a competition is taken into account via the weighting. The European Cup and Champions' League is given a higher weighting at 50% because of its higher standards. The EUFA Cup and the Fairs Cup are weighed higher than the Cup Winners Cup beause of the larger number of teams taking part.
The Inter-Toto Cup is treated slighly differently as it culminates effectively at the Quarter final stage with three qualifiers proceding to the EUFA Cup. The Inter-Toto Cup is given a much lower weighting reflecting the fact that it is not difficult to enter by comparison with the EUFA Cup.
